Coordinated Transport

How can better coordination reduce transportation-related student absences?

Partners & Funders

Two people walk down a hallway in a New York Public School.

The Project

Students in temporary housing are at greater risk of chronic absenteeism. We provided design consulting to develop human-centered interventions to better coordinate transportation management between homeless shelters, schools, and the DOE Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT), with the goal of reducing transportation-related student absences.

The Outcome

PPL produced design concepts and tools to address critical moments of intervention–including a Get to School Guide for the DOE transportation website, a Student Transportation Overview, and a Bus Route notification system.
