Building a Coalition for Social Justice

How can a diverse group of housing, mental health, and justice advocates align on a shared vision and voice?

Partners & Funders

The Project

In New York City, there is an urgent need to drive policy that promotes racial equity, emphasizes social determinants of health, is cost-effective, and can be scaled. PPL supported the organization and launch of the Social Justice Planning Collective, a coalition of New York City-based mental health and criminal-justice organizations, to drive these goals forward.

The Outcome

We facilitated consensus-building workshops with providers, City officials, advocates, and people experiencing issues of mental health, homelessness, and justice involvement to co-design the collective’s mission and messaging. Now that the collective is launched, members can collaborate to meet the long-term needs of the city with regard to mental health and criminal justice.
