Empowering Infection-Control Champions in Healthcare

How can U.S. infection control agencies and departments support healthcare systems to create relevant infection control information that meaningfully engages America’s healthcare workers?

Partners & Funders

Three infection control employees wearing full-coverage medical protective equipment handle a container of hazardous materials in a hospital.

The Project

The COVID-19 pandemic emphasized the importance of effective Infection Control (IC) knowledge and practice. For the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, PPL partnered with RTI International to understand the variety of healthcare worker archetypes and how healthcare information ideally transitions from Federal and State guidances to system policies, workplace protocols, and eventually staff trainings.

The Outcome

PPL led research and design activities to inform infection-control communication strategies and direct training strategies to empower front-line workers to be champions of infection control in their workplaces.
