Understanding Those Who Harm

How could we address the needs of perpetrators of violence in the shelter system through new policies, programs, and tools?

Partners & Funders

Two PPL team members stand at the desk of a collaborator while he shows them something on his computer screen.

The Project

New York City’s single-adult shelters lack programs to prevent repeat intimate partner violence. PPL collaborated with the NYC HRA Office of Domestic Violence (ODV) to explore opportunities to design shelter systems and programs that reduce intimate-partner violence.

The Outcome

PPL designed a set of concepts for new communication materials, digital tools, and staff trainings focused on addressing intimate-partner violence, ultimately paving the way for new shelter systems and programs that prioritize improving the safety of all shelter residents.
